Mayor's Welcome

As Mayor of the City of Montego Bay, I would like to welcome you to our Website and hope that you will find it both informative and helpful.

Our City is in the process of undergoing change and development and we ask that your bear with us during these challenging times. As a new administration, we pledge to our citizens, whom we are proud to represent, that we will not shirk from our responsibility to deliver quality services in a professional manner. The St. James Parish Council is here to serve you!

For our friends outside of Jamaica, I invite you to visit Montego Bay, the tourism capital of Jamaica, known otherwise as the 'Friendly City'. We wish to share with you the fact that reggae music, the heartbeat of our country, is at its best in July of each year, when we host here in Montego Bay, the largest and best reggae music festival in the world, REGGAE SUMFEST, drawing thousands of reggae fans from all over the world. Visit the REGGAE SUMFEST website at www.reggaesumfest.com.

The Institute of Jamaica, which was founded in 1945, is the repository of our rich cultural heritage and has responsibility for the Museum of Montego Bay located at the Civic Centre in the heart of our city at the historic Sam Sharpe Square. There you may view historical records and artifacts. The Institute from time to time will be hosting various events, showcasing our rich heritage in the arts. We are very excited about the presence of the Institute in Montego Bay and invite you to call (876) 971-9417, or visit their website at www.instituteofjamaica.org.jm/museums/mobay.htm.

As Montegonians, we have become increasingly aware of the critical need to protect and nurture the environment and actively encourage our children and adults to become involved in this process. The Montego Bay Marine Park is a vital and central figure in the drive to promote environmental awareness and you may learn more about their activities and lend support to this worthwhile cause by visiting their website at http://www.montego-bay-jamaica.com.

The promotion of investments and the development of a sound economic base for our citizens is central to our overall strategy to improve the quality of life of our citizens. We, therefore, invite those of you who may have an interest in investing in Montego Bay to contact our local Chamber of Commerce by visiting their website at www.montegobaychamber.org

Montego Bay embraces a wide diversity of perspectives and once you have visited us you will experience the fact that we truly live up to our national motto 'Out of Many One People'. I invite you to call Air Jamaica @1-800-AIR JAMAICA, visit their website at www.airjamaica.com or contact the JAMAICA TOURIST BOARD at www.visitjamaica.com. Hop on a flight and come down to Montego Bay.

We look forward to seeing you!

Regards,

Noel W. Donaldson
Mayor
