These pages present statistics on Outdoor Poor

Recipients:
The Poor Relief roll counted 882 persons in
January 2001, while as of December 2001 there were 889.
Throughout the year, 110 new cases were added, while 103
either died or were removed from the roll.
Recipients are almost evenly split by gender, with 53% female
and 47% male. The bulk
of recipients are 60 years and over (43%) while 11% are under 20
years. 306 recipients
were children, with 67% dependents and the rest under their own
names.
Budget:
The total expenditure for dole, clothing,
medication, transportation and rent is $2,711,956, with 95% going to dole payments.
In-kind donations such as clothing and maintenance of
facilities (for example, painting) are critical to the Poor Relief
department; any donations are gratefully received.
Street People: During 2001, the Poor Relief department counted 42 street
people.
Temporary Relief: Poor Relief provided 42 people with temporary relief at an
average expenditure of $500 each.
Burials: The department provided burial services for 75 people, with an
average expenditure of $2,745.
Referrals: Poor Relief officers referred 200 people to other agencies:
Police, Cornwall Regional Hospital, Blossom Gardens Children’s
Home, Ministry of Education (schools), Family Court, Ministry of
Housing, other Parish Council departments and Red Cross health centers.
Recipients:
As of December 2001, the infirmary counted 82
people. The majority
(62%) are male, while 65% were over 60 years of age with no patient
(0%) under 20 years of age.
Budget:
Total expenditure for 2001 was $254,1973.20,
with 40% of expenditures on food. Other expenditure categories are drugs, food, building &
upkeep, burial, utilities, sanitation and miscellaneous.
