MONTEGO BAY JUNIOR COUNCIL 2002-2003

Message from Junior Mayor
Deroi Brown

It is truly an honour for me to have been chosen the Junior Mayor of the City of Montego Bay . The experience of the competition was both fulfilling and challenging.

I must congratulate the Junior Councillors on their wonderfully prepared and presented speeches.  This made the competition a keen and enthralling one, and so hearty commendation is in order.

The Junior Council Competition, which has been held a number of years now, is an always welcome and anticipated event that exposes young talent.  The St. James Parish Council must be congratulated for the dexterity with which the competition is planned and implemented.

The Junior Council of Montego Bay for the year 2002-2003 strives to be an active and demonstrative force in the city.  We’ll be undertaking the formation of a Parish Council Youth Club for the year which will of course target youths, informing them about local governance; exposing them to speech, drama, the arts, and in essence keeping them occupied and out of trouble.  This Club will seek to achieve it mandate for the year by:

  • Interacting with the communities,

  • Helping the communities (through a specific programme),

  • Making our city better through our project.

It is my vision that this Junior Council will be one to remember; setting the pace for all others to come.  I am completely confident that my Junior Councillors and I will strive for the greatest excellence as we fulfill the mandate given to us by the St. James Parish Council.

It is my message to all Montegonians that we rise to the occasion to make our City and country a better place.
